james simons is another self made billionaire hedge funder. i really don't understand hedge funds. i'll be the first to admit it. i doubt very much that even if they were explained to me, slowly and patiently by a grandmother while i ate milk and cookies and had my temples gently rubbed by tibetan golden haired llamas i would even get it then. more infinitely confusing than that is how you can be a hedge fund money making man and still be self made. james simons is worth 5.5 billion dollars though and earned it through the mysterious and magical world of hedge funds. i've heard it often said that it takes money to make money and is of course why most of us are not making money. we had none to begin with and it's never ever been said that it takes no money to make money. nor is it ever said that it takes no money to make no money, though that would be quite accurate, no one would say it because no one at all would stand long enough to hear it. let's assume then that james simons started out not from nothing, but from means. on the other hand, james simons studied math at m.i.t. and graduated and later deciphered codes for the defense department "during vietnam". i am guessing by "during" vietnam they also mean during the war, and not just there on vacation in the late 80's. this man james simons may have some skills. more fearful than that however is that he may also have some strong connections at the department of defense in the united states, at the least. this may be one fellow that you might decide to steer clear of. some people we would do well to leave well enough alone. if you decide that you want to take the scary well connected bull by the horns however, i will include his contact information so that you can write him and remind him that your trickle down cheques have yet to arrive. he is 70 years old.Renaissance Technologies LLC
